Serj Tankian memoir Down With the System

Serj Tankian, the frontman of System of a Down, has announced his new memoir titled ‘Down With the System’. The book is set to be released on May 14, 2024, under Hatchette Books. The memoir is described as an “accidentally hatched philosophical memoir” and will cover much more than just his time with System of a Down.

In the book, Serj Tankian will take readers on a journey through his life from his childhood when he moved from Beirut to Los Angeles at age seven, through his career as a musician and activist. The book will also cover his family history, his own motivations from a young age and lessons he didn’t know he had learned.

Hachette Books notes that the memoir is far more than just a rock ‘n’ roll fable. It’s an immigrant’s tale, an activist’s awakening, and a spiritual journey from darkness toward light. The book will follow Tankian as he evades glass bottles hurled at a cancelled show by angry Slayer fans, teams up with Tom Morello to push social justice causes on unsuspecting metalheads, argues with LAPD officers over the best way to quell rioting fans, and defines new sounds and singing tactics with Rick Rubin.

System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band that was formed in Glendale, California in 1994. The band consists of Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboards), Daron Malakian (guitar, vocals), Shavo Odadjian (bass, backing vocals), and John Dolmayan (drums).

System of a Down’s music is characterized by its heavy sound, political lyrics, and unique blend of different genres The band’s music has been praised for its political themes and activism. System of a Down has been vocal about issues such as the Armenian Genocide, the Iraq War, and the prison at Guantanamo Bay. The band’s music has also been used in various films and TV shows such as “The Matrix Reloaded,” “S.W.A.T.,” and “Rick and Morty”.
