The first photos from the Mad Max prequel film were released at CCXP in São Paulo with a photo featuring a golden version of Taylor-Joy, as she will appear in the film as Furiosa, a younger version of Charlize Theron’s Mad Max character: Fury Road.
George Miller, who directed the previous Mad Max films, directs the film and wrote the script with Nico Lathouris. Along with Taylor-Joy, the film also stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Burke, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson and Daniel Webber.
In Furiosa, according to the official synopsis, “As the world falls, young Furiosa is plucked from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a large Bikers Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. presided over by The Immortan Joe. As the two Tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials while gathering the means to find her way home.”
Furiosa’s predecessor, Mad Max: Fury Road, is the fourth installment in the Mad Max film series. Released in 2015, the film focused on the battle between Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) and Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) against the cult leader Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) and his followers.
“The main thing George [Miller] and I talked about was that Fury Road is a road movie,” Taylor-Joy previously said of its sequel on the Inside Total Film podcast. “You know, it happens over, I think, three days: getting somewhere, and then turning around and coming back. And [Furiosa] is an epic. It happens over a long period of time, and you kind of get to know [Furiosa] better that way. I love that character so much. That whole experience was mind-blowing, and George is the best. I hope [people] like it.”
