In a surprising revelation, acclaimed director Taika Waititi has admitted that he initially had no interest in directing a Marvel movie. The New Zealand filmmaker, known for his unique blend of humor and heart, took on the task of directing ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ not out of a passion for the superhero genre, but out of necessity.

“You know what? I had no interest in doing one of those films,” Waititi said. “It wasn’t on my plan for my career as an auteur. But I was poor and I’d just had a second child, and I thought, ‘You know what, this would be a great opportunity to feed these children.’”

Despite his initial lack of interest, Waititi went on to direct not just one, but two Thor movies for Marvel Studios, including ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’.

His approach to the Thor series was a departure from the norm, infusing the films with his signature comedic style. This gamble paid off, with ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ revitalizing the series and earning critical acclaim.

Despite the mixed reactions to ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, Waititi’s impact on the Thor series is undeniable. His fresh take on the character and the world of Asgard breathed new life into the franchise.

However, fans hoping for a third Thor film from Waititi may be disappointed. The director has stated that he will not be involved in a potential fifth Thor movie. Instead, Waititi plans to focus on other projects, including an adaptation of the graphic novel ‘The Incal’, a movie in the Star Wars universe, and an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel ‘Klara and the Sun’.

All of the “Thor” movies are available to stream now on Disney+.
