Magic: The Gathering, the collectible card game, has announced a multi-year collaboration with Marvel Comics to bring the legendary comic heroes and villains of its comics line into Magic: The Gathering for the first time. Hasbro Inc., the parent company of Magic: The Gathering, made the official announcement, stating that Marvel will help bring its iconic characters to fans around the world in new ways. The first set will arrive in 2025, with more to come after the initial release.

This collaboration is a massive reveal, as both Marvel Comics and Magic: The Gathering are immensely popular and can greatly benefit each other by working together. Cynthia Williams, President of Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro Digital Gaming, shared that sentiment in a press release: “We are extremely proud to collaborate with Marvel to bring its iconic characters to fans around the world in new ways. These tentpole sets will build on the tradition of incorporating beloved fan-favorite characters and elements from world-class brands into Magic: The Gathering”.

Marvel Comics shared that same sentiment. Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Comics and Franchise, said in the press release, “Trading cards have always been a part of Marvel’s DNA, so this collaboration takes that experience to a whole new level. With the depth that our storytelling and characters bring to the table, we can’t wait for fans to see how the Marvel Universe translates seamlessly into gameplay within these Magic: The Gathering products and sets for years to come”.

The Marvel Comics universe will be the latest entry into Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond crossover brand, which has brought numerous franchises into the mix in the past, including Fallout and Doctor Who. While the first cards that the crossover will get haven’t yet been revealed, plenty of characters could easily be brought into the first Magic: The Gathering set. For example, both X-Men and Avengers have numerous heroes and villains that collectors would love, including Captain America, Wolverine, Thor, Storm, Iron Man and Rogue.

This collaboration is expected to be a huge success among fans of both franchises. It is exciting to see how these two worlds will merge together in this unique way. We can’t wait for more details about this collaboration to be revealed.
