Nicholas Hoult to Portray Lex Luthor in “Superman: Legacy”

Nicholas Hoult

In a surprising casting development, British actor Nicholas Hoult has been tapped to bring the iconic villain Lex Luthor to life in the highly anticipated superhero film “Superman: Legacy.” The news has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, as fans eagerly await the next chapter in the DC Extended Universe.

A Fresh Face for a Classic Villain

Hoult, known for his versatile performances in films such as “Mad Max: Fury Road,” “The Favourite,” and the “X-Men” franchise, is no stranger to the world of superheroes. His portrayal of Beast in the Fox X-Men movies showcased his ability to balance depth and intensity, making him a compelling choice for the role of Lex Luthor.

Director James Gunn, who previously helmed the successful “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, has been deliberate in his casting choices. While Hoult was a runner-up for the role of Bruce Wayne in “The Batman,” it seems fate has now aligned him with the infamous billionaire and criminal mastermind, Lex Luthor.

Lex Luthor: A Complex Adversary

Lex Luthor, a character deeply ingrained in Superman lore, is more than just a villain. His genius-level intellect, vast wealth, and ruthless ambition make him a formidable adversary for the Man of Steel. Whether he’s plotting world domination or manipulating events from behind the scenes, Luthor’s presence always looms large.

The film’s title, “Superman: Legacy,” hints at exploring the legacy of both Superman and his adversaries. As a young reporter for the Daily Planet, Clark Kent (played by an as-yet-unnamed actor) will navigate a world where heroes and villains clash, and Luthor’s machinations threaten the delicate balance.

A Multiverse Connection?

Interestingly, rumors suggest that Gunn has been in discussions with one of his “Guardians of the Galaxy” actors for the role of Lex Luthor. Could this mean a multiverse connection? Fans speculate that the character referred to as “Apex” in casting discussions might be an alternate version of Lex Luthor—one capable of challenging Superman on a cosmic scale.

While Hoult’s casting as Lex Luthor is confirmed, the identity of the actor donning the red cape remains a mystery. Names like David Corenswet are in contention for Clark Kent, while Lois Lane’s casting options include Samara Weaving, Emma Mackey, Phoebe Dynevor, and Rachel Brosnahan.

DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters

“Superman: Legacy” is set to kickstart the DC Extended Universe’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters on July 11, 2025. With Gunn at the helm, the film promises to introduce established DC heroes within its cinematic universe, expanding the scope beyond Superman himself.

As the countdown begins, fans can’t help but wonder: Will Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor be the ultimate nemesis Superman faces, or will there be other surprises waiting in the shadows? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain—the legacy of Superman is about to take flight once again.
